Mr. Han Meilin and the Olympics
Meilin’s Love for the Olympics
Mr. Han Meilin’s love for the Olympics dates back to the 1990’s.
As artistic consultant for the Chinese National Gymnastic Team, he regarded the athletes as his cherished children. When they performed well, he invited these children to his home and celebrated with them; when they played not so well, he would encourage them. When he heard the news that the Chinese National Gymnastic Team lost the game in 2004 Athens Olympic Game, Mr. Han immediately flew to Athens and appeared in the gymnasium.
Without words, he shook hands across the railing to comfort and encourage them. In memory of the 100th anniversary of Olympic Games and the last Olympic Game in 20th century (1996 Atlanta Olympic Games), Mr. Han was invited to design a large urban sculpture Five-Dragons Clock Tower. By the selection of dragon and some other traditional artistic images which represent China, this sculpture displays the elegant Chinese culture and art to foreign friends.
Since that time, Mr. Han has always been involved with the Olympics. Whether the logo of Beijing Olympic Games Bid, or the logo of Beijing Olympic Game “Chinese Seal﹒Dancing Beijing”, or Mascots of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games -the “Fuwa” —— All of these creations and designs are the proofs of Mr. Han Meilin’s love for the Olympics.
